Course Description
This workshop introduces the principles of using ultrasound to guide nerve block procedures in the areas of regional anesthesia including following blocks:
·Interscalene
·Supraclavicular
·Infraclavicular
·Axillary
·Paravertebral
·Epidural
·Femoral
·Sciatic
·Ilioinguinal
·Transverse abdominal plan
Participants are limited to 21, with 3 ultrasound machines available to allow training in ultrasound techniques on models. Panel discussions will address issues relating to the introduction of these procedures into everyday clinical practice.
Course Objectives
Upon completion of this program the learner will be able to:
1) Understand the basic physical principles of ultrasound relating to nerve block techniques
2) Manipulate machine controls to ensure diagnostic accuracy
3) Identify peripheral and trunchal nerves and recognize appropriate blocking points
4) Have some experience of manipulating a needle under ultrasound control following practice with ultrasound phantoms
5) Understand commonly encountered difficulties in adoption of this technique
